Helen Scott, Psychologist

Helen Scott is a Registered Psychologist, who has been working at Gymea Lily since 2012. Helen is a full member of the Australian Psychological Society.  Helen is also a Board Approved Psychology Supervisor.

Helen has over 25 years of clinical experience in Australia and the United Kingdom, largely working with families and/or children and adolescents. Helen has a Bachelor of Arts majoring in English and Psychology, as well as a Master of Arts in Psychology from the University of Sydney.

Her work has been varied, working with adults individually, with adolescents and children individually, as well as providing therapy to couples and families. While in the United Kingdom, she worked as a systemic psychotherapist and family therapist within the Multidimensional Treatment Foster Care Program. She currently also works as psychologist in Out of Home Care for Life Without Barriers in Wollongong.

Helen’s interests and professional specialisations include anxiety and phobias, bullying as well as trauma and attachment. Helen particularly enjoys working with older adolescents and young adults.  Helen is proficient in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy and interpersonal psychotherapy, as well as narrative therapy and solution focused therapy. In addition, she has completed training in ACT and DBT.  She also has experience with eating disorders, trauma counselling as well as emotional, physical and sexual abuse.

Helen was also awarded a Graduate Certificate in professional writing from Deakin University and has an interest in creative writing.

Helen previously worked as a family therapist at Boys’ Town, Engadine and as an Adolescent and Family Counsellor at the Manly Youth Centre. She is a member of the Association of Family Therapy in the United Kingdom.

Helen has completed extensive training in family therapy and trauma and attachment therapy as well as domestic violence and drug and alcohol. Helen has completed a Working with Children check.
