Rachel Kur is semi-retired and only offers Telehealth appointments on a Monday.

Rachel Kur joined Gymea Lily in 2010. She has worked in private practice for over 30 years. She is psycho-dynamically orientated but flexible with other approaches depending on need. She is a registered clinical psychologist. Rachel holds a WorkCover approval number. She is happy to provide long-term psychoanalytic counselling and help people with bereavement and loss, as well as work issues and domestic violence.

Rachel qualified as a clinical psychologist in South Africa in 1986 where she ran a successful and busy private practice until she relocated to Sydney. She assessed and treated various clients from a number of cultural backgrounds and different socio-economic groups, some with psychiatric illnesses others with psychological disorders.

Her main orientation is psychodynamic and she feels fortunate that she has had the privilege of working with many clients long term. When long term work is not possible, Rachel uses short term psychodynamic therapy or supportive therapy. The issues she has mainly dealt with are adjustment disorders, depression, anxiety disorders, unexplained somatic complaints, personality disorders, PTSD, bereavement and grief, and phase of life difficulties.

With regard to couples therapy Rachel uses the IMAGO model which integrates various theoretical approaches and has a strong psychodynamic component. She is a certified IMAGO therapist since 2004.

Rachel has also significant experience with relationship and attachment difficulties, and in addition has done some parenting work and has given a number of public talks. She has done training with the Masterson Institute in personality disorders and disorders of the self and she has done some psychodynamic training with Nancy McWilliams and attachment theory training with Prof Çora Smith.

Gymea Lily is very pleased to have Rachel as part of our team as she brings such a wealth of experience to the clients that she sees here.
